Summit Pens

I am writing in the hope that you might be able to offer some advice or information for a project I currently have underway.

I know that in the grand scheme of things Summit Pens probably come a long way behind the Beatles, Liverpool FC, and shipping in Liverpool's successes, but it is the history of this famous Liverpool company (Summit / Curzon-Summit, etc) that I am currently seeking information on. I have many fine examples of their product, and have some details of the early history of the company. What I am struggling to find out is the development of the company name & why they disappeared so quickly shortly after WWII? (at a time when Conway Stewart, Parker, etc thrived).

Would you have any details, anyone with memories of working for the company, or any idea where I could find anything from job vacancies to company news items?

To clarify, my project is to develop a website primarily on the pens that were produced, but I was hoping to document something about the history & social background of the company.

Rushworth Kensington Piano

I have a piano Rushworth, Kensington model, probably from the early '900. I'd be curious to know the history of this model, the actual years of production and sales. I am Italian and this piano was given to me by a friend who had purchased antiques at an auction in England.

In Italy I could not find useful information and I do not find similar examples so let me know the quotations and if there is a way or a person capece to repair the piano because have any broken gavel and some key stops. For those who wish can send photos of the piano.

Dear Rob
I have 2 queries
1 Do you have a photo/info.on the obelisk in Springfield Park in Knotty Ash?
2 Any ideas about a shop, currently empty, in Bold Street.  I think it is no 69,  the upper floors are painted white with blue decoratons?
Will be very grateful

Rushworth`s Request for information

Dear Sirs,

I am a direct descendant of William Rushworth who founded the family organ building business in Liverpool in 1828. A few years later the business expanded into retail musical instruments. The business developed over the years and was very much part of the cultural and artisic life of Liverpool for many years. My brothers ran the business as the fifth generation, but sadly it closed a few years ago.

It has an interesting history and I am collecting as much material as I can find, with a view to writing a book about the family company and those who ran it. I have a reasonable amount of material but am making inquiries to see if I can find more. Do you have any material which might be relevant or ideas where I might find historical papers or other information about the business in Liverpool?

Any ideas you have which might help me in my search would be very much appreciated.

Kind regards,

Jonathan Rushworth

Alan Hanckel

Dear Rob of  Liverpool History Society,

I am researching a fellow American, Alan Hanckel who died in Liverpool at the turn of the 1900`s.  I am particularly interested in the location of his grave.  I would be grateful for any assistance you may be able to provide.

Best wishes

Photographic images of Bessie Braddock

Dear Sir/Madam,

I’m currently working on a BBC production relating to the history of Liverpool. I’m looking for photographic images of Bessie Braddock that we would be able to use in the programme and was wondering if you  have anything of her in your collection?

Warm regards,
